NTU International Joint Laboratory Initiative
Powered by GCEEC to Advance Global Research Collaboration and Industrial Innovation
The NTU Intelligent Perception Joint Laboratory is a groundbreaking cross-border R&D initiative jointly developed by Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and a high-level university in Shenzhen, China, under the guidance and coordination of the Global Cultural and Educational Exchange Committee (GCEEC). This project exemplifies GCEEC’s mission to facilitate global cooperation in science, technology, and education through the creation of international joint laboratories and research centers.
Vision and Purpose
The joint lab serves as a dynamic platform for scientific innovation, advanced engineering, and technology transfer in fields critical to the future of intelligent systems and sustainable development. With a focus on real-world applicability and interdisciplinary integration, the lab supports the end-to-end transformation of research into industry-ready solutions.
Laboratory Structure and Resources
The joint laboratory operates across two locations:
The laboratory adopts a “1+1+N+M” model:
AI-empowered Robotics
Development of humanoid robots equipped with real-time reinforcement learning, multimodal perception, and natural language interaction capabilities.
3D Environment Modeling and Digital Twin Systems
Creation of intelligent mapping platforms using LiDAR, UAVs, infrared thermal imaging, and BIM technologies for smart city and industrial applications.
Multimodal Sensor Fusion & Control Optimization
Research in environment-adaptive sensing and kinematics-aware reinforcement learning to enhance robotic responsiveness and energy efficiency.
Structural Health Monitoring
AI-driven defect detection and predictive maintenance for buildings, bridges, and critical infrastructure.
Green Technologies and Urban Sustainability
1
The initiative supports two-way mobility of researchers, graduate students, and technical staff. Joint academic training programs, workshops, and exchange visits will strengthen academic integration and cross-cultural collaboration. NTU’s high-maturity R&D outputs will be matched with Chinese industry partners to drive product incubation, licensing, and scalable deployment.
2
The lab aims to serve as a springboard for industrial applications through joint development projects, enterprise collaborations, and public-private partnerships. Key focus areas include: Robotics and automation for manufacturing and logistics; Smart infrastructure monitoring and digital urban planning; Clean energy and AI-enabled sustainability solutions; Deep-tech incubation and start-up acceleration.
3
This international collaboration exemplifies GCEEC’s role in bridging world-class research institutions and applied innovation ecosystems. By combining NTU’s cutting-edge research capabilities with Shenzhen’s industrial depth and rapid prototyping environment, the lab supports a globally replicable model for joint R&D platforms.
